# Heat from the sun, aimed where you want it

A lightweight reflector follows the sun and sends its light through your window, onto a wall or onto your solar panels. About 1 kW whenever the sun shines. It reads the weather forecast and closes itself before a storm arrives.

Free to reserve; no payment details taken.

- **Power, each:** about 1 kW, like an electric space heater, while the sun shines.
- **Heat a year, UK:** 1,000+ kWh in an average UK city (about 1,400 sunshine hours).
- **How many:** about 1 per window; about 6 for an average swimming pool.
- **Storage:** no batteries; heat is stored in walls, floors and furniture.

## 01 · How it works

Light enough to mount anywhere. Smart enough to survive it. A reflector this light would once have been torn apart by the first hailstorm. These check the forecast online and fold shut before bad weather gets close. They fit on existing walls, corrugated roofs and fence posts, with no plumbing or building work.

- **Open · tracking:** when you need heat or light it opens, follows the sun and reflects it onto the target you picked in the app.
- **Closed · protected:** in bad weather, or when it isn't needed, it closes itself to stay protected.
- **Night · lit:** after dark it lights up in any colour or pattern. A group can show the time or a festive display.

## 02 · Uses

- **Clean heat:** warms any room or surface it can see. An early tester called it "a far more pleasant heat".
- **Heat storage:** furniture and plasterboard for days, brick walls and ground floors for weeks. Software for this is coming.
- **Boost solar panels:** fills in shadows on panels that can't be moved without losing their feed-in tariff.
- **Daylight:** brightens dark corners for a fraction of the cost of a new window or skylight.
- **Cooling:** in summer it reflects sunlight back to the sky, shading whatever is behind it.
- **Health:** the first benefit testers reported was more natural light and better sleep.
- **Swimming pools:** heats the water without new plumbing and works alongside solar thermal.
- **Community energy:** owners can let neighbours in sight use their reflectors, set up in the app.
- **Commercial · industrial:** schools, supermarkets, kilns under light roofs. Not tested yet, so [tell us about your site](https://sun.smartreflectors.com/contact/).
- **Aid:** at 1 kW each, one donkey could carry a 50 kW system over a mountain pass.
- **Climate:** returned for recycling at end of life against a refundable deposit.
- **Space:** a modified design focuses enough sun to carve habitats from rock. See [Smart Reflectors / Space](https://space-smartreflectors.pages.dev/).

## 03 · Savings calculator

Heat = reflectors × 1 kW × hours in use. Saved = heat × (your price − plan price). Estimates for a sunny, unshaded spot; your site will differ. Gas is roughly 6–10p per kWh, electric heaters roughly 25–30p.

Example: 2 reflectors, 1,000 hours a year, heat at 20p per kWh, owned: 2,000 kWh a year, £400 saved a year, £780 up front, paid back in about 2 years.

## 04 · Pricing

Borrow one or own one. Both are free to reserve, and we take no payment details. Change your mind and we take you off the list.

| | Borrow (we lend you the reflector) | Own (the heat is yours) |
|---|---|---|
| Up front | £195 refundable deposit | £390 per reflector |
| Heat | 10p per kWh | 0p per kWh |
| Internet | needed | recommended for weather protection |

Both: sets itself up, protects itself, heats and cools; app or online control; top up solar panels, sell heat to neighbours. Reserve on the [contact page](https://sun.smartreflectors.com/contact/).

## 05 · Questions

**Where should I put them?** Ideally north of whatever you want to heat, somewhere that gets sun all year and can see every target you want to reach.

**How do I set them up?** They set themselves up. Choose the target and when you want the sun on it.

**Do I need an internet connection?** Yes for a borrowed reflector, and recommended if you own one: it lets the reflector close before bad weather, lets you control it from anywhere, sell heat to neighbours and plan heat storage around the forecast.

**Can they make electricity?** Only with solar panels. Aimed at panels, they raise their output. They can also feed other photovoltaic or photochemical equipment; check with its supplier.

**Do I need to set anything up to store heat?** No. The reflectors learn where to put the heat: the ground floor for long periods, brick walls for medium, furniture and hollow walls for short.

**How do I pay, or sell to neighbours?** Owned reflectors cost nothing to run. On a borrowed one you pay for heat before you use it. Selling to neighbours is set up in the app.
